Yesterday I took Nick to the airport to get on his way to Newport, Rhode Island, which is precisely 1,545 miles from my house, but who’s counting? He arrived in Newport last night and this morning we said our last good-bye’s (or “see-ya-later’s”). He told me last night that I wasn’t allowed to cry during our last phone conversation, so I made it short and sweet. I’m so glad that we got to spend some time together before he left and guess what? It’s only 80 days until I go to Newport. It seems a lot shorter when you put it in days that way. I’m not sure when I’ll get to talk to him, or when he’ll be able to write letters, but I’m just going to keep myself busy.
For anyone interested there is a Facebook page called “Officer Training Command Newport” that will post lots of pictures and updates on Nick’s class which is Class 16-13. There is also another page that posts more information and uplifting messages to family and friends, but it is a closed group so let me know if you would like me to add you to it.
Letters are what will get him through the good days and the bad. I know he would really love to hear from family and friends so please, please, please write him when you get the chance, even a card would be awesome, but no packages! Here is his address:
OC Nickolas Bergert

Class 16-13 (his company name will go in parentheses here, but I don’t know his co. yet)

Oh, and shout out to Aunt Jane for the awesome journal she got me! I’ve already started writing in it 🙂
Until next time….
